ABA Grands update

11/28/06: Back from the ABA Grands and other then the results the race was good. We flew in Wednesday and drove to the hotel with the Derosa's and got everything ready for practice. We both skipped the first cruiser practice because it was at 7 am and was only 15 minutes long so we arrived at the track around 12. Steve Spencer did a good job building it this year as it was probably the best Grands track I have ridden. First straight was open but with jumps that were to deep to pedal manual and you had to jump so it was nice to doing something different. Practice was good and I felt confident for the NAG 5 challenge. Friday night rolls around and I had a good nights rest and felt prepared. My first round was stacked, it had Sean Lechner, Ben Kubalak, Kris Fox, Joe Sowers and Joe Zurek. Somehow all the old dudes ended up in one of the four motos and six world champions ended up in another? lol... Joe, Joe, Kris and I qualified out of that and onto the semi. My semi was a good one with the four people who qualified out of my moto and then Nic Long, Jake Trevino, and someone else. I cased the step on the first straight but still won that followed by Long and I don't remember who the third person was because some people crashed in the last turn. Main time came and I was in gate 7 with Ohrazda in 6 and Peebles in 8. I had a good gate and the only person I could see on the inside was Herman. We went into the first turn even but I went a little to high and Zurek went underneath and I lost some speed for the second straight and got balled up and Nic went by so I ended up fourth. Bubba won the Pro Spectacular and his third straight AA title with Randy winning the Grands race but didn't have enough points to win the title. Alise Post, who, at 15 won rookie pro of the year and the womens pro title. Carned won his... 5?? straight title I think it was in vet pro and Herman won his second straight National #1 Amateur title. Congrats to those four people and I will have a few videos from the weekend up soon. JB
